AIFF to WAV Conversion

AIFF files, or Audio Interchange File Format files, and WAV files are both capable of holding high-quality audio data. But if a particular program accepts WAV files and not AIFF files, or your would rather use WAV files for a particular task, you will need to find a way to convert your AIFF files into WAV files. Several programs are capable of converting between these audio formats, including Audacity, Foobar2000 and Cool Edit Pro 2.0. Each of these programs are free to download and use.

Instructions

  1. Audacity

      Open Audacity. Click "File," then "Open." Select the AIFF file and click "Open." The AIFF waveform will appear in the program.

      Click "File," then "Export..."

      Click "WAV (Microsoft) signed 16 bit PCM" under "Save as type."

      Click "Save" to convert from AIFF to WAV.

    Foobar2000

      Open Foobar2000. Click "File," then "Open." Select the AIFF file you want to convert to WAV and click "Open."

      Right-click the AIFF file. Click "Convert," then "..."

      Click "Output format" in the "Current settings" section.

      Click "WAV." Click the "Back" button, then the "Convert" button. The file will convert from AIFF to WAV.

    Cool Edit Pro 2.0

      Open Cool Edit Pro 2.0. Click "File," then "Open waveform..." Select the AIFF file, then click "Open."

      Find the AIFF file in the list of audio files on the left side column of the program. Double-click the file. A waveform will open.

      Click "File," then "Save As..." Select "Windows PCM (*wav)" under "Save as type."

      Click "Save" to convert the AIFF to WAV.
