How to Stop a Child From Begging
Begging and whining is one of the most annoying and embarrassing habits a child can develop. For example, a child who repeatedly demands food in a supermarket and cries or screams when he doesn't get it can embarrass both you and him. If you find yourself overwhelmed and unsure of what to do about this behavior, there are a few simple steps you can take to stop your child from begging and make your life easier.

1
Talk to your child. Explain that his begging annoys you and that he can't always expect to get what he wants by begging. Encourage him to ask politely for things once, and never to demand them or whine.
-
2
Be firm. If you say no once, make sure your child understands you mean it. Nobody wants to upset their child, but if your child thinks there's any chance she can get what she wants, she will continue to ask until you change your mind.

3
Avoid giving in. Giving in to your child's begging teaches him that it is an acceptable way to get what he wants. If your child's demand is reasonable, try to reach a compromise, but don't give in just to stop him from whining.
-
4
Reward acceptable behavior. If your child asks you for something politely, try to give it to her. This shows her the appropriate way of getting what she wants. However, this does not mean that you should give in every time.

5
Break the habit of buying your child things on specific occasions. By purchasing toys or food every time you go out, your child comes to expect it, and he may beg when he doesn't receive it.
