How to Tie a Knot for a Tieback
Curtains and drapes often need to be tied back to let light in or see out the window. There are many ways in which to tie back curtains to accomplish this. Two ways include using a slip knot and using square knot. Cords and ropes can be plain and simple or more ornate to show off your decorating style. While many curtains and their ties are for decorating purposes only, others need tied back to be functional. Does this Spark an idea?

Square Knot

Thread the rope through the tie back hook connected to the curtain. Bring one side of the rope on one side of the curtain and the other half to the other side.

Take one side of the rope into each hand. Take the rope in the right hand and cross it under the left. Bring the bottom rope up and through the center created by the crossed ropes.

Open the curtains to the desired amount. You can leave the curtains with a loose square knot or tie it tighter with a second knot.
Slip Knot

Thread the rope through the tie back hook connected to the curtain. Bring one side of the rope on one side of the curtain and the other half to the other side.

Form a loop with the rope you're holding in your right hand and keep the one in the left hand stationery.

Move the loop under your left hand and pull the rope in your left hand through the loop. This should form a new loop.

Switch the ropes so that each hand is holding the opposite rope and pull tight. Moving the knot up the length of the rope will form a tight slip knot.
