How to Create & Draw a Superhero

How to Create & Draw a Superhero thumbnail
Superman is a superhero who has stirred the imagination of children everywhere.

Superheroes should have a muscular appearance, but should not look too menacing. There should be an aura of strength, rather than an inclination for violence about a superhero. Superheroes are crime fighters who are blessed with superhuman powers that make them a friend of the good, but an enemy of the bad. The emphasis in your drawing should be on creating a character of controlled power.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw an outline of the superhero's head. Make most of the head rounded, but give the jaw a slightly square appearance.

    • 2

Add two vertical lines that prominently slant outward to form the superhero's neck. Attach outward curved lines to the left and right of the neck to give the appearance of powerful shoulders, and curve the lines at the ends down and outwards to create the biceps.

    • 3

Emphasize the curves of both the inner arms. These should be drawn curving outward at the top and then inward at the bottom. The muscularity of the arms should be pronounced.

    • 4

Curve the top of the chest with both sides curving slightly outwards. Add a vertical line running down from just beneath the top central area of the chest to the belly. Draw two outward curving horizontal lines two thirds of the way up the torso and either side of the vertical line to complete the drawing of the chest area.

    • 5

Make the superhero's waist narrow by curving the bottom of the chest inward and then create the hips by curving outward to create the top part of the legs. Go back to the arms and add the forearms. Both the inner and outer part of the forearms should curve outward down to hands that are hanging loose by the superhero's side.

    • 6

Portray the distinctive outward curves of the calves. Draw the rest of the legs straight and down, before curving outwards to make the feet that should both be apart and pointing outward. Complete the drawing of the legs by depicting the inward angled lines of the inner thighs.

    • 7

Create a serious expression on the superhero's face by drawing the mouth with no upturned or downturned lines. The character should have a broad nose, narrow eyes and medium-sized ears, and the hair should be short and parted on one side. Shade the drawing sparingly to emphasize the muscular nature of the character.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sketch the figure you plan to draw. This will help you understand just how many curves are involved in the drawing of a superhero.

  • Don't give the superhero character overly huge muscles. Most superheroes lead everyday lives, and so would look as though they have a normal shape in a shirt or jacket.
