How to Put a Slideshow on YouTube

A slideshow is a series of static images, usually set to music. Many people also add various special effects to spruce up the images and to make the transition between them more visually appealing. You can make your own slideshow for free using one of the many programs available online, and post it on YouTube for the world to see.

Instructions

    • 1

      Navigate your browser to YouTube.com.

    • 2

Click on the blue "Upload" link at the top of the screen near the right side.

    • 3

Sign in using your YouTube or Google account information. If you do not have either, click on the blue "Sign up for YouTube" link at the bottom of the sign-in box.

    • 4

Click on the yellow "Upload Video" button at the top of the screen near the left side. A dialog box opens.

    • 5

Locate and click on the name of the file your slideshow is saved under.

    • 6

Click the "Open" button in the bottom-right corner of the dialog box.

    • 7

Fill out the information form about your slideshow while you wait for the file to upload. The form includes four sections: "title," "description," tags" and "category." You don't have to fill out all four sections, but doing so makes the slideshow easier for others to find.

    • 8

Click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the form. Your slideshow is now available to watch on YouTube.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can generally only upload videos to YouTube that are 15 minutes or less and 2GB or smaller.

  • Create your slideshow with one of the free slideshow makers available online, although they tend to be fairly basic; three of the many examples include Slideroll, Photosnack and Visual SlideShow. If you want more advanced features, such as an extensive library of special effects, purchase a professional slideshow software package.

  • Save your slideshow in one of YouTube's acceptable formats, such as WebM, MPEG4, 3GPP, MOV, AVI, MPEGPS, WMV or FLV. Alternatively, if you have already created your slideshow and it is not in the appropriate format, edit it using a video-editing program. Most computers come with one already installed, such as Microsoft's Movie Maker or Apple's iMovie.
