How to Do a Strawberry Float for a Parade
Whether you are decorating a float for a strawberry festival, advertising for a farmer's market or you just plain love strawberries and want to tell the world about it, a parade float is a great way to draw the crowds. Decorating a float for a strawberry festival is all about using a lot of color, setting up the stage so that it is striking, but not cluttered, and getting outfits for the people who will be performing during the parade.

1
Arrange some tables on each side of the float. Fix them securely in place. You can use these to keep baskets of fresh strawberries on and hand them out to the crowd. It is a good idea to put the strawberries in small plastic bags to keep strawberry juice from creating a mess.

2
Paint the cardboard tubes red. Fix them to stand upright on the sides of the float. Fix additional tubes horizontally between the tops of these. Stretch the thin sheet over the top to create a canopy.

3
Make strawberry shapes from wire mesh to be about a foot across. Make a mixture that is half water and half glue. Dip strips of newspaper into the mix and layer them over the wire. Make four layers and allow them to dry. Add another four layers and a final layer of white paper. Allow them to dry and paint them red with black spots and a green top to look like a strawberry. Place these in various places around your float.

4
Fold a piece of red tissue paper in half many times. Cut a strawberry shape into the one side of the folded paper. Unfold, and you will have a long chain of strawberry shapes. Place these in arcs between the columns and across the fronts of the tables.
-
5
Make larger strawberry shapes from the wire. Make them in two parts with holes for arms and legs. Be sure to cut and bend the wire in certain places so that the parts can be hooked together. Wrap each part in furry red material allowing the top half to overlap the bottom to hide the seam. Use as outfits for the people who will be on the float. They will need face paint and green hats as well.
