How to Remove Stuck Pixels From a JPEG Image

Small colored dots called pixels can be seen when zooming in on a digital image.

A pixel is a square, colored dot that when combined with many others is used to make up the basis for a digital image. A stuck pixel refers to a single rogue pixel that is often a significantly different color than those surrounding it. For example, a bright yellow pixel surrounded by black-colored pixels could be considered "stuck." Fortunately, thanks to the quality of many common image editors such as Adobe Photoshop, GIMP and Corel Paintshop Photo Pro, stuck pixels are easy to fix.

Instructions

1. Open your image editor and load the JPEG that has the stuck pixel. Zoom in on the stuck pixel.

2. Click on the "Clone Stamp Tool" from the toolbar and select a small feathered brush. For one pixel, a brush size of 3 to 5 pixels is more than sufficient.

3. Hold "Alt" and use your mouse to click on the image next to the pixel. Try to click on an area that is the color that the stuck pixel should be.

4. Click and drag the mouse over the problematic area. The stuck pixel should disappear.

5. Save your work.
