Internet Explorer Is Typing Backwards in Its Fields

You can revert the configuration change that made Internet Explorer work in right-to-left text input mode.

The Internet Explorer Web browser (and the underlying Microsoft Windows operating system) has native support for all major languages spoken worldwide. Some of those languages (e.g., Hebrew) are written right-to-left. A key combination pressed inadvertently may get your Internet Explorer into right-to-left mode, where text seems to appear backwards when you type into a field -- be it in Internet Explorer's configuration options or on a website you are browsing. You can reconfigure Internet Explorer to go back to the left-to-right mode common to all Western languages.

Instructions

    • 1

      Launch Internet Explorer.

    • 2

Navigate to the website where Internet Explorer is showing right-to-left behavior. If that happens within an input field specific to Internet Explorer (e.g., the Address bar), bring that field up.

    • 3

Click inside a text field where Internet Explorer is showing right-to-left behavior, then press "Ctrl-Right arrow." Internet Explorer will go back to the usual left-to-right mode.
