Twirling flags is a skill that takes practice and hard work to perfect. The flags that flag twirlers use for their sport can be purchased already made, but those who like to create and design their own crafts can make their own twirling flags at home. 1
Open the pattern package and remove the sections of the pattern. Iron the pattern on a low setting to remove folds, creases and wrinkles. If desired, you can place a cloth over the pattern sections and iron over the cloth so that you do not damage the pattern.
-
2
Lay the fabric for your flag on a flat surface. Lay the pattern sections over the fabric and pin the patterns to the fabric. Cut along the pattern guidelines. Follow the pattern directions to sew the fabric pieces together using, first, a straight stitch, removing the pins as you go.

3
Double over the straight stitch with zigzag stitches. Secure the seams of the flag using a fray-block product so that the seams do not fray or come undone when you twirl the flag.
-
4
Place the flagpole along one edge of the flag and line the pole with glue. Roll the flagpole into the fabric and hold in place as the glue dries. Test out the flag by twirling it and then examining the seams and the glued-on pole to make sure there was no stretching or ripping. Decorate the flag as you desire.
