How to Create a Colored Aged Effect on Photos
Modern digital photography and photo editing software has given people more control over the look of their photos than they have ever had before. It is now easy to create all sorts of interesting effects. One change you might want to try is to change the colors on a photo to make it resemble an antique photograph that has faded over the years. Fortunately, this kind of change is particularly easy to do with most photo-management packages.

- Photo editing software such as Google Picasa, GIMP or Windows Live Photo Gallery

Launch the photo editing software, choose the photo you wish to work on and double-click it to start editing.

Choose "Sepia" under "Effects." Your photo will change to various shades of brown.

Open the fine adjustment tools under "Tuning," "Fine Tuning" or a similar name. Using the "Highlights" slider, adjust the look of the photo.

Experiment with the "Shadows" and "Color Temperature" sliders (and the "Contrast" slider, if available) to get the look you want.

Exit the program. Your changes will be saved automatically.

Tips & Warnings
If you make a change that you don't like, you can undo it. Click the "Undo" button or type "Ctrl" plus "Z" to step back or click "Revert to Original" to undo all your changes.
