In coding, aliasing allows long variables to be called by their shorter aliases.

AIX stands for advanced interactive executive. It is a series of Unix operating systems that is coded and supported by IBM. The current version of AIX is 7, but versions as early as 5.3 are still actively supported. AIX gained its following by becoming the first operating system to journal its file system. This catalog allows for faster performance, since it knows the locations of all files. AIX supports aliasing, which is useful when you're employing long variables.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the AIX terminal. Do this by selecting "Terminal" from the "Applications" menu.

    • 2

Locate the variable for which the alias is to be removed. When the alias was created, a command such as "alias con on converter" should have been executed. In this case, "con" is the alias for the variable "converter."

    • 3

Type "unalias [alias]" replacing "[alias]" with the name of the alias. In this example, the command would be "unalias con".
