You can also purchase a generic wizard's robe and change it into a Ravenclaw one.

If you are a fan of the Harry Potter book series, you may want to dress up for Halloween or Harry Potter-themed parties as your favorite character. If your favorite is Luna Lovegood, Cho Chang or another member of the Ravenclaw house, you can emulate them by making a Ravenclaw robe. If you are in a rush you can substitute the robe for an old graduation gown, but follow these instructions for a real Ravenclaw replica.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure from your feet to the top of your shoulders and cut a piece of fabric twice this height. Fold it in half lengthwise so that the fold is at shoulder height.

    • 2

Extend your arm out straight and measure from the tips of your fingers to your shoulder. Cut the fabric this width and fold it in half widthwise so that your folded piece of fabric is the height of your shoulders and half the length of your arm. Pin around the edges to keep the four layers from sliding.

    • 3

Cut two slits in the fabric 6 inches from the corner where the two folds meet. Cut a curved line to connect these two slits to form a quarter of a circle for the neck line. Position the fabric so that the neck hole is at the top right hand corner of the fabric.

    • 4

Measure around your chest or bust and divide the number by four. Subtract the number from half of your arm length to get the length of the robe's arm holes. Measure 18 inches down from the top left hand corner of the fabric and cut the arm hole length over toward the center. When you reach the arm hole length, cut down to the bottom of the fabric at a 40 degree angle so that the bottom of the robe is larger than the top.

    • 5

Unfold the fabric lengthwise so that you have a piece that looks like a large T-shirt. Sew together the bottom of the arm holes and down the side on each side with a 1/2 inch seam. Fold the bottom of the robe up and hem it to prevent the fabric from fraying. Do the same with the bottom of the arm holes and around the neck length.

    • 6

Turn the robe inside out so that all the seams are hidden. Iron on a Ravenclaw patch so that it falls just above the chest on the right side.

Tips & Warnings

  • Complete the outfit with a magic wand or a broomstick.
