How to Attach an Extra Strip of Batting
Batting usually refers to the cotton, foam or polyester material that goes in between the layers of a quilt. The quilter pins the batting in between the layers and then sews it in place. You can also find batting used over upholstery foam with cushions, chairs and couches underneath the initial layers of fabric upholstery. You can attach strips of batting two different ways, depending on the project.

1
Measure the extra strip of batting and cut it down to size if necessary. It should be a few inches longer than the length or width of the batting-covered foam or cushion that it will cross over or wrap around.
-
2
Wrap the strip of batting around the batting-covered upholstery foam. Pin it in place. Check to see that it is snugly secured to the foam.
-
-
3
Stitch the strip of batting to the layer of batting that already covers the foam, starting from end to end. Thread your needle with nylon thread and use a zigzag stitch. Knot the thread when finished and cut away the excess.

4
Cut a strip of batting that is about 2 inches longer than the length of the item it will be attached to. For example, if you're attaching it to the frame of a mirror, each strip should be about 2 inches longer than each side of the mirror. Making the strip 2 inches longer ensures you have enough coverage on all sides of the mirror.
-
5
Apply a steady line of hot glue to the item. Press the strip of batting against the item and hold it for three minutes.
-
6
Allow the glue to set for at least two hours before you continue with the craft project. Cut away the excess batting.
