How to Get Rid of the Yellow Border for Text in GIMP

GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) is a freeware graphics application that many people use to create graphics for Web pages and for printed documents like fliers and posters. It has many of the tools you would expect to find in a professional-level graphics editor, although the layout, tool arrangement and use are slightly different than in some other programs. One aspect of the program that can be annoying is the yellow border that pops up around text you add. While this border does not save or print out with the image, it is distracting while you're working. Fortunately, there is an easy way to get rid of it.

Instructions

    • 1

Start GIMP. Select "File" from the menu and choose "New." In the dialog that opens, enter the width and height for your document, and click "OK."

    • 2

Select the "Text" tool from the toolbar, and use it to type some text on the canvas. You will see the yellow border appear around the text.

    • 3

Go to the "Layers" panel, and click on the "Background" layer or any other layer except a text layer. You will see the yellow border vanish from around the text.
