How to Make a Decoupage Egg
Decorate Easter eggs that will last for years using craft eggs and decoupage medium. Decoupage medium is glue that also provides a protective, decorative finish over paper and other craft supplies such as pressed flowers. Look for decoupage glue in glossy, satin, textured or glittery finishes at craft and discount stores to customize your egg designs. Fill a bowl with decoupaged eggs as part of your holiday decorations, or hang the eggs from a tree branch to make a festive centerpiece.
Things You'll Need
- Wooden egg
- Egg carton
- Pastel acrylic paint
- Paint sponge
- Tissue paper in multiple colors
- Scissors
- Decoupage medium

Cover the top section of a wooden egg with pastel acrylic paint. Wooden egg forms are available at craft and discount stores. Stand the unpainted section of the egg in an egg carton until the paint dries for at least one hour.

Paint the bottom section of the egg with the same paint, and then stand the egg upside down in the egg carton until the paint dries. Repeat the process to apply a second coat and let it dry.

Cut multiple colors of tissue paper into small sections to fit onto the egg. The sections can be 1-inch squares, 1/4-inch wide strips or any size and shape that will fit onto the egg.

Spread a thin layer of decoupage medium onto one section of the painted egg with a paint sponge. Press tissue paper into the glued area. Smooth the displaced glue over the tissue paper.

Follow the process to cover the top half of the wooden egg with tissue paper. Stand the egg upright in an egg carton until the decoupage medium dries for at least 30 minutes. Cover the bottom half of the egg with tissue paper and stand it upside down in the egg carton until the glue dries.

Cover the top half of the egg with a second coat of decoupage medium. Let the glue dry, then cover the bottom half with a second coat and let it dry. Repeat this process to add at least three coats of decoupage medium on top of the tissue paper. Let the decoupage glue dry between coats.
