Perhaps you want a Mudkip to include in your unstoppable team of Pokemon. Maybe you just want to get a Mudkip to complete your National Pokedex in Pokemon Platinum. Unfortunately, it's impossible for you to find a Mudkip in the wild or from an in-game character legitimately. In order to get this rare starter, you must go to Pal Park or use the Global Trading System (GTS). You might also need Pokemon Sapphire, Ruby or Emerald.

Global Trading System

Start the game and go to the main menu. Click on the option that says "Wireless Connection Setup" and follow the directions. Your home must have Wi-Fi, or you must be at a local hotspot, such as McDonalds or a cafe. Restart the game after successfully connecting to the Internet.

Get three badges from Pokemon Gym Leaders. Go to the Global Trading System building, which is located in Jublife City. You will find it by going directly left to the Pokemon Center.

Seek a Pokemon by choosing "Mudkip," the gender and what level you want it to be. You won't be able to choose the Mudkip's exact level, but you will pick from a level range. If there is a Mudkip that is the correct level and gender, the trade will commence immediately. Wait for a few days if the trade doesn't happen immediately.

Pal Park

Spot all 210 Pokemon in the Sinnoh Pokedex in order to obtain the National Pokedex. Battle every trainer, go to the Solaceon Ruins to see Unown, spot Rotem in the Old Chateau and visit Mr. Backlot on Route 212 and examine his book to get Manaphy in your Sinnoh Pokedex.

Choose the Mudkip as your starter in one of the third generation games. Breed the Mudkip before trading if you can. Store your Mudkip in the PC, which you can find in any Pokemon Center. Place the Gameboy Advance cartridge in the bottom slot of your Nintendo DS.

Go to Pal Park, located on Route 221, and transfer the Mudkip from your third generation game to Platinum. Look in the fields, oceans, ponds, mountains and forests for your Mudkip. Use a Park Ball to capture your Mudkip. Similar to the Master Ball, the Park Ball has a 100% capture rate.
