How to Make Colored String Bracelets Using Three Colors Step-by-step

Making bracelets with string or embroidery floss is a popular summertime craft for children and preteens. Bracelet-making is an ideal activity for a sleepover party. When the children are done making the bracelets, they can swap with each other. Use three differently colored threads to match an outfit or show school pride. Depending on the width of the bracelet, you can use three strands or six strands, two of each color.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut one or two strands of each color of string to 3-foot lengths.

    • 2

Gather the strands together and tie a knot on the top to attach them to each other.

    • 3

Tape the knot to a flat surface.

    • 4

Arrange the strands of string so that the same colors are next to each other, if you're using two strands of each color. Number the strands from left to right: 1, 2, 3 or 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 if you used two strands of each color.

    • 5

Lift strand 1 and bring it over strand 2, forming a backwards "L" shape. Tuck the end of strand 1 under the "L" shape and pull to form a knot around strand 2. Repeat, making a backwards "L" with strand 1 over strand 3, then knotting, then over strands 4, 5 and 6 if necessary.

    • 6

Lift strand 2 and bring it over strand 3, making a backwards "L." Tie a knot with strand 2 as you did with strand 1. Work your way across the remaining strands, tying knots. You'll finish by tying strand 2 over strand 1 on the right side.

    • 7

Continue knotting the strands over each other, from strand 3 to strands 4, 5 and 6 if you're using them. Once you've knotted all the strands across, strand 1 will be back on the left again. Continue to make rows of knots until the bracelet is the length you'd like.

    • 8

Tie all the strands together in a knot at the end. Wrap the bracelet around a wrist, and tie the ends together to secure.
