How to Get Permission From a Computer Administrator to Download a File
To protect a company's network from virus attacks, some system administrators will not allow files to be downloaded from outside the company's closed network. But in some cases exceptions may be granted if the user works with the system administrator to test his incoming file or program before downloading the completed application or singular file type. In most cases it will not matter if the file is a downloadable application or a single file, as long as the file can be properly vetted before download and installation.
Instructions
-
Gain Permission from Network Administrator to Download Email Attached Files
-
1
Open a new email. In the subject line write "permission to download file on company network," then fill in the "to:" field with the email address for your company's systems administrator. Do not attach the file from the original email at this time. It might be against company policy to send such files that have not been approved.
-
2
Wait for the system administrator to respond. If he asks for the original file, browse to the original email you received and click on the "forward" option to send the file. Use the subject "File to approve and download attached." This will alert the administrator that you have attached a file that has not yet been cleared of possible virus attacks.
-
-
3
Wait for the administrator to respond. In some cases the administrator might be able to do a remote download of the file to your system. If approved, you might be required to provide your computer's IP address and other information for a remote installation -- information the administrator will help you locate. In other cases he might log you out of your computer and log in with administrator capabilities to download the file.
-
4
Open the file and use it as you normally would if the administrator installs the file. You will only need to have the file approved one time for subsequent uses without permission required for that file or program in the future.
Gain Permission from Network Administrators to Download Web-based Giles
-
5
Send an email to your network administrator and in the subject line write "permission to download and install the following file." Tell the administrator in the email body that you would like to download and install a web-based file. Include the direct URL to the file you would like to download. Explain what the file is meant to do so the administrator can test the authenticity of the file or program.
-
6
Wait for the system administrator to approve your request.
-
7
Give the system administrator access to your computer. In some cases the administrator might direct you to certain sections on your computer so he can gain access to your system. You might need to give him your computer's IP address and other identifying markers. In some cases he might log onto your computer at your actual location and approve the file under his administrator account.
-
8
Open the file or program when it has been installed on your system. Use the program as intended. You will only need the program installed or the file downloaded one time by the administrator unless the program is deleted and requires new authentication in the future.
