How to Replace a Background in Picnik
Taking digital pictures often involves editing them on a computer and sharing them online with friends and family. While you can spend considerable money on photo editing software, you also have options that do not cost as much. Google's Picnik provides powerful online tools that you can use to turn your digital photographs into creative masterpieces. With a premium Picnik membership, you have the features necessary for edits such as replacing the background of a photo.

Click the "Collage" tab at the top of the Picnik workspace. Select the double collage under "Basic" by clicking it. Click the photo you wish to edit at the bottom of the workspace in the "Photo Basket" and drag it up to the right square of the double collage.

Select the solid color you wish to use to remove the background of the photo by clicking the color box in the left sidebar of the workspace. The empty left space of the double collage and the frame around the photo will become whatever color you click. Click "Done" when you finish filling in the color.

Click the "Create" tab at the top of the workspace. Click "Advanced," and then "Clone" from the left sidebar.

Select "Source Selection," and then click your mouse once in the colored left space of the double collage. This will fill the brush with the color for use in coloring out the background. Set the brush size and the brush hardness by moving the slider bars to the left or right.

Position your mouse on the picture in the background area you wish to erase. Hold down the left mouse button and move the mouse back and forth to erase the background images. Continue working carefully until you erase all of the background images, leaving only the focal point you wish to keep. When you finish, the photo will contain only the focal point on a colored background.

Click the "Edit" tab, and select "Crop." Move the outline around the double collage so it outlines only the photograph with the edited background -- removing the double collage. Click "OK" in the upper-right corner to crop the picture.

Click "Save and Share" to save the edited photograph. Name the photograph, and click "Save Photo."
