How to Keep Your Face From Being Shiny

How to Keep Your Face From Being Shiny thumbnail
Makeup can sometimes hide shiny skin.

Shiny faces are often considered to be unattractive and irritating. Shiny skin is generally the result of an over-production of oil by the face's skin glands. Many men and women experience excess oiliness in their "T areas," the portion of someone's face right above the eyebrows and down around the nose area in a sort of "T" shaped pattern. Shiny faces can be prevented if the amount of oil that the skin glands produce is stabilized and controlled. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Test your skin to see if it is shiny. Wash you hands, since dirty hands may cause breakouts, and run your index finger across your T area. Rub you index finger and thumb together and if they are oily, your face is most likely shiny. If you have very oily skin, you may be able to see the oil clearly from simply looking into a mirror as well.

Dab your face with an oil pad to remove the oil and reduce shininess. This does not keep your face from producing oil, but will eliminate the oil for a while. This is beneficial for when you do not have the time or resources to cleanse your face.

    • 3

Drink more water. If you are dehydrated, your skin will dry out. When your skin becomes to dry, your glands produce more oil to make up for the loss in hydration. By drinking more water, you lower your body's need to produce large amounts of facial oil.

Steam your face once a week. To do this, simply fill a bowl with hot water and hold your face over the bowl for about five minutes, letting the steam open your pores. This also reduces face shininess.

    • 5

Wash your face with cleaners that exfoliate the skin but that do not overly dry out your face. Again, if your face becomes too dry, your glands will work harder to produce excess oils. Stripping all the oil from your face when it is shiny by using harsh cleansers will make you face more shiny in the long run. Do not wash your face too often; generally twice a day is sufficient. Use oil-free moisturizers to avoid excess drying and oily buildup.
