How to Get Magmar on "Sapphire"

Magmar is a Fire-type Pokemon that makes its home near active volcanoes. Magmar comes with high offensive attributes and a resistance against Bug-, Steel-, Fire-, Grass- and Ice-type attacks. In additional, its arsenal of moves includes direct attacks, such as Fire Punch and Flamethrower, as well as devious, status-impairing techniques, such as Smog and Smokescreen. To obtain Magmar in "Pokemon Sapphire," you must get it in trade from "Pokemon LeafGreen."

Instructions

    • 1

Travel to Vermillion City in "Pokemon LeafGreen." The city is in the south section of the Kanto mainland.

    • 2

Go to the docks south of the city.

    • 3

Ride a Seagallop Ferry to One Island, a town on Knot Island. (You cannot access the ferry system until you defeat Blaine, the Cinnabar Island Gym Leader.)

    • 4

Surf northeast from the One Island beach until you land on Kindle Road, a narrow strip of land.

    • 5

Travel up Kindle Road until you reach another beach.

    • 6

Surf north across the water until you reach the base of Mt. Ember, a dormant volcano.

    • 7

Explore the tall grass around the base of Mt. Ember until you find a Magmar. Magmar's encounter rate is 5 percent, so it is a rare sight, and one that may be some time in coming.

    • 8

Engage Magmar in battle. It will be between levels 38 and 40, so you must weaken it with attacks before you capture it with a Poke Ball.

    • 9

Fly to the nearest Pokemon Center.

    • 10

Talk to the woman on the second floor of the Pokemon Center. She will grant you access to the Trade Center room, where you can select which Pokemon you would like to send to "Pokemon Sapphire." Choose Magmar.

Tips & Warnings

  • Magmar is weak to Ground-, Rock- and Water-type attacks, so use these elements to lower its health.

  • Magmar's special ability is Flame Body. If you try to hit it with physical attacks, there is a 30 percent chance that your Pokemon will suffer a burn.

  • Numerous rival trainers occupy Kindle Road. They will battle you with Pokemon that are around level 35. Wild Pokemon, such as Rapidash, Fearow and Persian, also live in this area. Some of them will reach level 40, so spray Repel if you're not prepared to battle them. If your team takes damage during these battles, visit the Ember Spa on the north end of the area.
