How to Decoupage Clothes
Decoupaging clothing, like any item, can add a personal touch to almost any piece. The process of decoupaging clothing is even the same as it is for a picture frame or other hard surface. However, the materials are slightly different, so they can be worn and washed. If you have decoupaged difficult items or even just created a simple collage, you can complete this project quickly and with ease.
Things You'll Need
- Glue (that is safe for washing and will not lose adhesive abilities after washing) or Pellon Fusible
- Foundation fabric (washer safe cotton)
- Decoupage fabric (washer safe)
- Scissors
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut a piece of foundation fabric with scissors. The size of the foundation fabric should be 1 inch larger on all sides than the corresponding piece of decoupage that you plan on placing on it.
-
2
Cut a piece of decoupage fabric to your desired shape and size with scissors.
-
-
3
Spread washable glue on the area in which you plan to place your piece of decoupage if you are using glue. Cut a piece of Pellon Fusible to the size of the foundation fabric if you chose to use that method. Place the fusible on the surface of the clothing.
-
4
Place the foundation fabric on the glued or fusible surface. Press and smooth the foundation fabric on to the surface of the clothing.
-
5
Spread washable glue or cut and place another piece of fusible material on the surface of the foundation fabric.
-
6
Place your cut piece of decoupage material on the glue or fusible material. Press and smooth the decoupage material in place.
-
7
Add decorative stitching around the perimeter of the decoupage piece if desired.
-
8
Repeat steps 1 through 7 for each piece of decoupage that you wish to adhere to your clothing.
