Use your TomTom GPS when venturing out in an unfamiliar city.

TomTom provides a wide variety of Global Positioning System (GPS) devices. These units provide you with a sense of security on the road. Your GPS device gives you real-time access to maps, directions and points of interest. Some GPS devices may even come with Bluetooth wireless technology and voice activation. If you just received a TomTom GPS, learn how to set it up before use.

      Plug the AC adapter into your TomTom GPS. Plug the other end into a wall outlet. Place your device in the charging cradle and allow it to charge until the battery icon is full.

      Remove the plug from your TomTom GPS. Press the "On/Off" button. Wait for your device to detect a signal.

      Answer the on-screen questions to set up your device. You also will need to register with TomTom. Once set up, the unit will display your current location.

      Tap the center of the screen to open the main menu. Touch "Navigate to." Tap "Address" from the options.

      Enter the address to which you want to navigate. You also may enter the city name or ZIP code. Use the virtual keyboard to input your information.

      Press the "Done" button. Choose "Yes" or "No" if you want to arrive at a specific time. Follow the on-screen directions to arrive at your chosen location.

Tips & Warnings

  • Move to an area that is away from trees, buildings and overhead when acquiring a signal.

  • Skip the registration process on your GPS to register online, if you prefer.

  • Never enter information on your device when driving.
