How to Change Atheros 802.11B/G

Atheros is a type of wireless chipset installed in many manufacturers' Wi-Fi cards. If your Atheros card supports the wireless B or G standards, you can switch between Wireless-B and Wireless-G mode by configuring the property inside the device's profile. This is often done to force a newer card, such as a Wireless-N device, to use an older standard.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Start Menu and type "device manager." Click "Device Manager" from the set of results.

    • 2

Right-click your adapter, then click "Properties."

    • 3

      Select the "Advanced" tab.

    • 4

Click "Wireless Mode" in the "Property" list.

    • 5

Click the drop-down menu to the right of "Wireless Mode" and change it to "802.11b" or "802.11b/g" to force the card to use an older standard.
