How to Clean Water-Stained, Textured Acoustic Ceilings

Acoustic tile can turn rooms in your home into better venues for home concerts and performances. Acoustic tiles are unique and require special cleaning procedures. There are several types of acoustic ceilings, including vinyl tiles, non-coated tiles and spray-on acoustic ceilings.

Things You'll Need

• All-purpose cleaner
• Soft-bristled brush
• Acoustic tile cleaning solution
• Cloths
• Vacuum
• Brush attachment
• Acoustic spray paint

Instructions

Vinyl Tiles

1. Spray the water stain with an all-purpose cleaner.

2. Let the cleaner sit for 10 minutes to loosen the water stain.

3. Scrub the water stain with a soft-bristled scrubbing brush until it is gone.

4. Rinse the tile with clear water and dry it completely.

Non-Coated Tile

1. Soak a clean cloth in acoustic tile cleaning solution. This cleaning solution should not contain water, which can damage non-coated tile.

2. Dab the water stain with the cloth. Work from the edges of the stain toward the center until the stain is gone. You may not be able to remove it completely.

3. Let the non-coated tile dry completely.

Spray-On Acoustic Ceiling

1. Put a brush attachment on your vacuum hose.

2. Turn the vacuum on and clean the entire ceiling. Pay special attention to the water spot to clean it. Sprayed acoustic ceiling is tough to clean and you cannot remove stains easily.

3. Spray the ceiling with acoustic paint to cover up the watermark if the vacuuming does not remove it.
