How to Make a Homemade Fly Attractant Solution
To build an effective homemade fly trap, it is necessary to be able to attract the flies to your trap. You can help significantly reduce or eliminate the fly population around your home or outbuildings by making your own fly attractant and using it to create homemade fly traps. The most common homemade fly traps are those that use papers soaked in a a sticky fly attractant to trap flies that land on them. Things You'll Need
- Syrup
- Granulated sugar
- Brown sugar
- Water
- Vinegar
- Banana (optional)
- Bowl
- Spoon or mixer
- Brown paper bags, scissors and string (optional)
Instructions

Sticky Fly Attractant

Measure 1 cup of syrup, 1/4 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 cup of granulated sugar for your fly attractant solution.

Combine syrup and both types of sugars together in a bowl.

Mix the ingredients together thoroughly with a spoon or mixer to create a sticky fly attractant solution.
Non-Sticky Fly Attractant Solution

Measure 3 cups of water, 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 1/3 cup of granulated sugar.

Combine sugar, water and vinegar together in a bowl. Add in a banana or syrup if you desire to sweeten the mixture and make it even more attractive to flies.

Mix the ingredients together using spoon or mixer. Use the fly attractant solution as desired.

Tips & Warnings
To make a sticky fly trap or fly paper, cut a brown paper bag into strips and allow the strips to soak in the solution overnight. Cut small holes in the top of strips and tie string through the strips to create hanging fly traps.
For a liquid fly trap, pour liquid into the bottom of a jug or jar that has a small opening and allow flies to fly into the container and become trapped.
