How to Do a Long Fauxhawk
You can transform your long hair into a fauxhawk or fro-hawk style with two simple ponytails and a lot of volume. The fauxhawk, aptly named after the Mohawk, is a similar style with a center focal point of tufted-up hair, but without the sides of the head being shaved. People who wish to recreate a Mohawk without sitting in a salon chair can do so themselves with a simple fauxhawk style. Before heading out into the public eye, practice the style at home to achieve the best look possible with the fauxhawk. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Wash and condition your hair like you normally do. Once the hair dries to a damp consistency, apply a volumizing mousse or gel from root to tip. Use your fingertips to massage the mousse or gel into the scalp to saturate the roots.
-
2
Blow-dry the hair in sections while pulling the hair away from your head with a brush. Try flipping your head upside down and drying it that way to increase volume.

3
Tease the hair at the crown of the head with a fine-tooth comb. Fauxhawks have lots of volume at the crown of the head.

4
Use your fingers to create a triangle at the top of your head. If you have long bangs, include the bangs in the triangle; shorter bangs can be pinned into place. Place one index finger at your left temple and the other at your right temple. Move your fingers, in a straight line, across the back of your head until they meet. Hold onto the gathered hair with your left hand and place your right hand at your right temple again. Move the right index finger towards the peak of your crown; add the additional hair to your left hand. Switch hands so that the right hand is now holding the gathering of hair at the top of your head, and place your left index finger at the left temple. Move the index finger to the peak of your crown and gather the hair. Secure the hair from the triangle into a loose ponytail that sits at the peak of the crown.

Pin short bangs back to flow with the triangle ponytail. Hold bangs upward with one hand and use the comb to back-tease the roots to obtain volume. Pull the bangs back carefully and pin into place with bobby pins. The pinned-back bangs should be slightly elevated in order to maintain consistency with the volume of the fauxhawk.
-
6
Brush the remaining hair at the back of your head into a tight ponytail. Secure the ponytail at the crown of your head, just below the first ponytail. At this point you will have pinned-back bangs or bangs included in the crown ponytail, a crown ponytail and a second ponytail. The two ponytails will not be joined, but they should be aligned with each other.
-
7
Massage your fingertips into the crown of the head, and pull the hair slightly upward to create volume. The more hair you pull upward, the higher the fauxhawk will be.
-
8
Spray the hair with a light-hold hair spray to secure the style.
