How to Make a Difference With Wristbands
From gold bangles to braided friendship bracelets, wristbands are nothing new to the fashion guru. Chances are, you've seen someone wearing a colorful rubber bracelet that sports a catchy message. Maybe someone even gave you a wristband and you felt so excited that you want to make a difference in another person's life. From religious messages to raising cancer awareness, wristbands can raise not only awareness and understanding about specific issues, but can also make the people around you feel encouraged and uplifted.

1
Select an issue you care deeply about. Maybe your grandmother passed away from ovarian cancer or a friend lost an infant to sudden infant death syndrome. If you don't feel passionate about a specific health cause, you may prefer to choose a political topic or a certain college. Some wristbands even feature religious sayings or Biblical scripture references.

2
Carry several wristbands with you at all times. Wear one on your arm, but also keep a few spares so you can easily give them out to strangers you meet.

3
Strike up casual conversation if someone notices or comments on your wristband. Use comments such as "Nice bracelet" or "Oh, my sister has breast cancer" as an opener to talk about the issue at hand.
-
4
Offer wristbands to people you meet who are interested in your cause or who seem as if they're having a tough day. Everyone loves free stuff, but a wristband given with a caring attitude is more like a gift.

5
Explain that while the person is welcome to make a donation to the cause your wristband supports, the true goal is educating people about the issue. For example, maybe your wristband offers a message of support for military troops overseas. Instead of offering financial support, people who are concerned about deployed soldiers could write a letter.
