How to Tie a TUF Line Knot

How to Tie a TUF Line Knot thumbnail
TUF Line is a popular line for serious fishermen.

The strength of TUF Line makes it a popular choice for fishing when using hooks, lures and terminal tackle. It is important to tie the line correctly so it does not slip or fray with use since it has very little give or stretch compared to other fishing lines. Tying a standard fishing knot does not work well with TUF Line, but an appropriate tie is simple.

Things You'll Need

  • Hook, lure or terminal tackle
  • Scissors or a sharp fishing knife

Instructions

    • 1

Thread your line through the eye of your hook, lure or tackle. Pull it through about four inches past the eye.

    • 2

Make a loop with the end of the line you threaded through that leaves an inch of single line close to the eye. Pinch the loop together to make a double strength 1 1/2 inches of line.

    • 3

Keep the loop pinched together with one hand and fold the line on either side of the lure -- one side attached to your loop, the other that is threaded through your pole and reel -- to make a V. Keep this V separated by about 1/2 inch with your finger.

    • 4

Working away from the lure, wrap the loop loosely around the V line four times in a spiral motion.

    • 5

Push the end of the loop through the middle of the V and spiraled line toward the eye.

    • 6

Finish the knot by pulling the loop and tightening the spiraled line. This should leave a little loop of line by the eye of the lure.

    • 7

Use the scissors to trim any excess line left above the knot you made.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your loop ends up being too long close to the eye, try again with less excess line pulled through the loop. The loop left should be no more than 1/4 inch long.
