How to Number Pages in a Screenplay Using Screenwriter

Some screenwriters using the Movie Magic Screenwriter software may print off their screenplays only to find that that their work is missing page numbers. Unlike other screenwriting software, Movie Magic Screenwriter does not automatically print - or even include - page numbers on screenplays. In order to add page numbers to screenplays in Screenwriter, you must format a header or a footer to include the page number.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Movie Magic Screenwriter, and access the screenplay to which you wish to add page numbers.

    • 2

      Click the "Format" menu.

    • 3

Click on "Header/Footer." This will open up the Header and Footer window.

    • 4

Determine which header or footer you want to use. Screenwriter allows two headers and one footer per page.

    • 5

Type "#" into the field of the header or footer you choose. You can also click on "Pg. #" in the "Codes" section beneath the header and footer fields. If you want a period to follow after the page number (page fourteen will number as "14." instead of "14"), place a period after the number sign in the field.

    • 6

Decide how often you want the header or footer to print. Your options are "Not Page One," "Every Page" and "Every Page Except First Page of Scene."

    • 7

Decide how the header or footer will align. Headers and footers can flush left or right. Click on "OK."

Tips & Warnings

  • According to the Movie Magic Screenwriter manual, page numbers for spec scripts are followed by a period and flushed right.
