Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of your bed in inches. Add about four more inches to that figure. For instance, if your bed is 50 inches wide, use 54 inches for the width of your headboard.

    • 2

Add the height of your bed to about 36 inches. So if your bed is two feet high (24 inches), the total height is 60 inches.

    • 3

Secure a piece of heavy foam board that is at least the width and height that you measured. If necessary, cut it to size.

    • 4

Ask a representative at a fabric store to cut a piece of fabric for you that is about 24 inches higher and 24 inches wider than the foam board. So, in this example, the fabric should measure 84 inches tall by 78 inches wide.

    • 5

Lay your foam board on a clean area of your floor. Drape the large piece of fabric over the foam board and allow the extra 24 inches on each side to fall around the edges.

    • 6

Grasp the top of the foam board and fabric tightly, preferably with the help of a friend. Fold the fabric over the back of the board. Ask your friend to staple the fabric in place.

    • 7

Fold the sides of the fabric in at the back and staple again. Repeat this action for the bottom until the fabric is tightly secured to the foam board.

    • 8

Adorn your new backboard with decorations as you wish. For instance, you might attach a few rhinestones or gems to the front with a glue gun. When finished, slide the backboard behind your bed against the wall and push your bed up against it firmly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Adjust the size (height and width) of the foam board as you wish. You can also add two layers of fabric instead of one if you want a bit more cushioning in front of the foam board.
