How to Create a Profile Silhouette Picture
Creating a profile silhouette picture is a simple way to design a portrait of a friend or even a family pet. A profile silhouette picture can be made by tracing around a person's or an animal's profile in a photograph. Profile silhouette artwork can be framed, placed in pendants or even decoupaged onto the top of a jewelry box.

Frame a Profile Silhouette Drawing

Select a photograph to use for the profile silhouette drawing, but choose one with the subject in profile.

Place the photograph on a light table, and put a sheet of 8-by-11 1/2-inch drawing paper on top of it. Trace over the outline of the subject in the photograph.

Scan and print several copies of the completed picture to use for other crafting projects.

Use one of the copies to draw and color images around the outline of the silhouette. Draw a desert scene around the profile silhouette of a man who likes to go to the Colorado River, for example, or an urban scene around the silhouette of a woman who prefers trips to New York City.

Color the inside of the profile silhouette with a solid color. This color does not have to be black as with traditional profile silhouettes.

Frame the picture.

Scan and print a smaller version of the silhouette picture. For instance, if your photo pendant is an oval shape that is 1 inch in diameter and 2 inches in length, make a photocopy to fit these specifications.

Color the inside of the profile silhouette with a solid color, but it does not have to be black as with traditional profile silhouettes.

Use the oval photo pendant as a guide for tracing around the silhouette picture.

Cut around the tracing on the inside of the lines so the silhouette picture will be small enough to fit in the pendant. Adhere the profile silhouette picture inside the pendant.
Decoupage a Profile Silhouette Picture on a Wooden Box

Scan and print the profile silhouette picture to fit on the top of a wooden box. For instance, if your box is 5 inches by 5 inches, make a photocopy to meet these specifications.

Color the inside of the profile silhouette with a solid color, but it does not have to be black as with traditional profile silhouettes.

Place a 4-inch diameter jar lid on top of the profile silhouette picture and trace around it to make a template for cutting. Cut around the circle on the picture, and sand the top of the box.

Apply decoupage glue over the top of the box and place the silhouette picture on top of it. Apply a couple more layers of decoupage glue on top of the picture to seal it to the box. Allow the decoupage glue to dry thoroughly before use.
