How to Recover an AutoCAD MEP Drawing
Mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineers draft building systems with Autodesk AutoCAD MEP. The application provides standard drawing tools, such as lines and dimensions, but engineers also use AutoCAD MEP's diagramming and documentation tools specific to the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering discipline. The program continues to evolve after years of development to serve the engineer and protect the drawing information in the AutoCAD MEP file. For example, recovery saves drawing information that would be lost during computer or power failure.

1
Type "Audit" in the command line to analyze and correct errors in a drawing. Follow the instructions provided in the command line to complete the file audit. If your drawing cannot be corrected, you will need to use the "Recover" command for the drawing.
-
2
Type "Recover" in the command line to correct and open a drawing file. Select the file in the window that appears and click "Open." This command is useful to recover drawings after an application or computer failure.

3
Type "Drawingrecovery" in the command line. This opens a list of files that are capable of being recovered. This is useful when you do not know where the original drawing file was saved, but you must recover the file.
-
4
Replace the backup file ".bak" suffix with the ".dwg" suffix. You have to do this in the computer directory or folder and not within AutoCAD MEP. Changing the suffix allows AutoCAD MEP to open the drawing file as an earlier version of the failed drawing file.
