How to Create a Social Bookmark

The social bookmarking phenomenon began in 1996 with a now defunct website called ItList. Its popularity increased and other sites followed suit. Now, there is an explosion of bookmarking sites available. Users can sign up with one of these sites to create a social bookmark to share with their friends and family.

Instructions

1. Sign up with a social bookmarking service such as Del.icio.us, StumbleUpon or Digg. Each service has different guidelines, but all require users to sign up to create social bookmarks.

2. Navigate to the Web page you want to share. Create bookmarks using the guidelines of the social bookmarking site you are using. This normally involves clicking on a button once you visit a site.

3. Tag the site with keywords so others will know the contents of the website. This enables them to determine if they want to visit the site. Tags also enable users to search for sites by keyword to find websites on a particular subject.

4. Place social bookmarking buttons on your website or blog posts so other users can create social bookmarks for you. This helps your site build relevant links and draws traffic to your site.
