How to Name Line Segments

How to Name Line Segments thumbnail
The name of a line segment reflects its endpoints.

A line segment is the portion of a line that runs between two specific end points. The line segment includes all possible points that lie between the two end points. Naming a line segment is necessary if you are distinguishing a certain line segment for the purposes of measuring, comparison or analysis. You may have to name a line segment as part of a geometry course in school.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the endpoints on the line. They will each be labeled with a single letter.

    • 2

Write the two letters that indicate the endpoints.

    • 3

Draw a small horizontal line over the two letters that represent the endpoints.
