How to Get Rid of Permanent Press Hemlines
When making alterations on clothes, you are likely to have to press out old hemlines that no longer fall at the ankles or wrists. If the garment is made of a permanent press fabric or of denim, however, it is specifically designed to resist changes to its creases. Still, a savvy hemmer can coax old hemlines out of most fabrics using household vinegar and an iron. For extra-stubborn creases, there are tried-and-true systems to conceal folds that you cannot remove. Does this Spark an idea?

Mix equal parts white vinegar and water, and put the mixture in a spray bottle. Test a small, inconspicuous area of the fabric for color-fastness.

Spray the hemline liberally with the vinegar solution. Dampen a cloth, and lay it over the crease. Iron the fabric on a hot setting through the cloth.

Conceal old hemlines on jeans by drawing over them with a matching blue crayon. Lay a dry cloth over your ironing board, turn the jeans inside out, and iron over the crease to set the crayon color.

Cover white hemlines or lines that cannot be removed by sewing lace or trim over them.
