Decorative bows make wrapped gifts creative and fanciful. The flexibility and stiffness of curling ribbon helps it hold shapes ranging from roses to stars. Purchasing ribbon flowers for each gift becomes expensive, especially if you plan on decorating several dozen packages for a birthday or holiday season. Don't let their intricate appearance discourage you from trying to create them yourself. Making flowers out of curling ribbon doesn't require master craft skills. All it takes is some simple repetition.

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Roll Double-Sided Tape
  • 32 Inches Curling Ribbon
  • Stapler (Optional)
  • 1 Faux Gemstone (Optional)

Cut the curling ribbon into 8-inch strips. Make each strip into a loop by securing the ends with a piece of double-sided tape.

Press the taped section of one of the loops to the opposite side of the loop. This will create a bisected loop of ribbon with smaller loops on either side of a flat center.

Repeat steps 1 and 2 with the other three loops for a total of four bisected ribbon loops.

Make an X with two of the bisected ribbon loops. Press the centers of the loops together with a piece of double-sided tape.

Lay a third bisected loop horizontally across the X and secure it with a piece of double-sided tape.

Lay the fourth bisected loop vertically across the X and secure it with a piece of double-sided tape. Press the centers of the bisected loops together with a piece of double-sided tape, or staple them together.

Attach the entire flower to the top of your present with a piece of double-sided tape.

Tip

Press an adhesive-backed faux gemstone into the center of your ribbon flower for a glitzy touch.

Use wider curling ribbon for a fuller flower.
