How to Repair Faux Fur Lining
Faux fur lining is generally found in winter coats and jackets, which are expensive items that it would be a shame to have to get rid of due to damage to the lining. Depending on what sort of damage there is to the lining, there are likely a myriad of ways you may be able to repair, improve or replace the damaged faux fur lining of your treasured clothing item. Luckily, the high-pile nature of faux fur linings can camouflage many defects, so your work doesn't have to be perfect to render the issue unnoticeable.

1
Brush out any mats in the fur with a hair brush. Be sure to go slowly, and make short strokes. If the brush cannot glide through easily, make short rapid strokes to detangle as you would a tangle in your hair. This kind of matting can happen if you accidentally put a faux fur-lined item in a dryer or have been wearing the item often and friction has caused it to mat. While this may not make the item look good as new, it can greatly improve its appearance.

Pinch the two wrong sides of the rip together, creating a pursed lip of material. Use your needle and matching thread to whipstitch together the two wrong sides of the fabric about 1/8 inch into the fur, avoiding catching any of the fur fibers in your stitching. Once you've finished this stitching, release the pursed lip and use your hairbrush to lightly brush the fur. The pile of the fur should camouflage your stitches and render them virtually unnoticeable.

Match a piece of faux fur to your faux fur lining if you need to replace a section of the lining. Faux fur is available at your local fabric or craft store, but if you cannot find a matching pattern, style or pile height you may have to replace the entire panel. If this is the case, remove the panel and use it as a pattern to cut the same shape out of a new piece of faux fur. Use your needle and thread to stitch the fur in the same manner as above. Once you've finished, brush the fur lightly to camouflage your stitches and your repair job will likely be very subtle, if at all noticeable.

Tips & Warnings
The term pile refers to the height or length of the fibers as they rise out of the faux fur backing material.
If you need to brush the fur, be aware that some of it may come out in your brush. This is fine and likely will not be noticeable.
