How to Use a Gordian Knot to Make an AVI
The Gordian Knot software converts a wide array of file formats to AVI. The video codec within the AVI file will be XviD or DivX video, depending on your choice. AVI stands for Audio Video Interleave and contains audio and video information, such as MP3 and XviD files. Files with an AVI extension have an MPEG or XviD codec inside, and converting your video to XviD is the same as converting to AVI. You'll need the DivX or XviD codec on your computer to play back AVI files you create with Gordian Knot.

Tips & Warnings
XviD and DivX video retain their quality even after compressing to a small file size. However, expect some loss of quality when compressing a DVD to one-fourth the size of a CD.
