Use soda can tabs to make a decorative necklace.

Soda cans are often recycled or thrown away once they are used, but you can also use the soda can tops to create an artistic and whimsical craft. For example, collect and decorate soda can tabs to use as a pendant on a necklace. The materials needed to decorate soda can tops can be purchased at any craft store. Although created out of soda can tops, people will never guess that your fashionable and decorative necklace was created out of a recyclable material.

Instructions

    • 1

Place six to eight soda can tops onto a flat surface, then paint each top using acrylic paint. Let the paint dry for 20 minutes, then turn the soda can tops over to paint the other side. Let the paint dry for an additional 20 minutes.

    • 2

Squeeze a dollop of glitter glue onto each soda can top where the top was removed from the soda can.

    • 3

Press a decorative bead onto each dollop of glitter glue, then allow the glue to dry for 30 minutes. This will add a decorative touch to each soda can top, and will cover up any sharp edges from the removal of the tops from the cans.

    • 4

Cut a piece of cotton cording with scissors to measure 18 inches long.

    • 5

String all of the decorated soda can tops onto the cording by inserting the cording through the main hole in each top. Place the two ends of the cording together, and tie the ends into a single knot.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remove the soda can tops under adult supervision. The metal can be very sharp and can cut fingers.
