How to Increase the History Size in the Eclipse Console

The Eclipse Integrated Development Environment (IDE) is a powerful, free and open-source software development tool. You can use this software to create applications in a number of programming languages. Each application is stored as a separate project and composed of one or more files. When you alter the contents of a file, the changes are saved to the Eclipse history. You can roll back your source code to earlier versions using the history. If you have a lot of hard drive space, you can increase the history.

Instructions

    • 1

Load the Eclipse IDE by clicking on its icon. The main application window appears.

    • 2

Click "Window" on the main menu bar at the top of the application window. A sub-menu appears.

    • 3

Select "Properties" from the sub-menu. A "Properties" window appears.

    • 4

Type "History" into the text box located towards the top-left side of the "Properties" window. A list will appear in the column below the text box.

    • 5

Select "Local History" from the list. The right half of the "Properties" window will display the history settings.

    • 6

Change the setting "Number of days to keep files" from "7" to a larger number. This affects how many days the changes are stored in the history.

    • 7

Change the setting "Maximum entries per file" from "50" to a larger number. This number affects how many changes are stored per file. If you have very large files, you may want to increase this number greatly.

    • 8

Change the setting "Maximum file size" from "1" to a larger number. This number affects how large the history file will be, measured in megabytes. Set this to a reasonable number given the free space of your hard drive.
