Although stainless steel is protected from corrosion by its layer of chromium oxide, the surface can still be oxidized over time. Oxidation causing a bluish tint can come naturally or from moisture or varying temperature levels. You can get rid of stainless steel bluing fairly easily with a bit of elbow grease.   • Warm, soapy water
  • 3 soft cloths

      Use warm soapy water and a soft cloth to wash the stainless steel. This will clean any dirt or grease from the item.

      Apply stainless steel cleaner such as 3M Stainless Steel Cleaner and Polish or Revere Stainless Steel Cleanser to a soft, dry cloth. Use a cleaner specifically made for stainless steel; other cleansers may contain abrasives that can harm the look of stainless steel.

      Use light rubbing motions in the direction of the polish lines on the stainless steel to work the bluing right out of it. This will also help to brighten the metal.

      Rinse the cleaner off with fresh water. Dry the stainless steel with a soft, dry towel.
