How to Use a Laying Tool
Laying tools allow needlework enthusiasts the ability to craft complex creations that would otherwise require much more expertise. A laying tool may be made of plastic, wood, metal, bone or even glass. Most have a handle that allows the user to hold onto the instrument while performing their needlework as desired, without difficulty. Use your laying tool correctly so that your needlework creations appear professional in their complexity, ending in a finished product that is much smoother.

1
Tie the end of the fabric coming from the fabric spool to the end of the needle. Slide the fabric into the needle's eye hole, then tie tightly.
-
2
Push the needle through the needlework board's fabric. Use the laying tool with your left hand to press the fabric coming from the spool down flat, then pull the tool towards you slowly. This will spread the strands of the spooled fabric so that they lie as flat as possible against the needlework board fabric.

3
Insert the needle once again into the needlework board fabric, creating a loop around the laying tool. Repeat for as many loops you wish to create. Raise the laying tool upward, keeping it flat on the fabric, until you gude the strands into place. Remove the tool carefully when you finish.
