How to Decorate Cupcakes to Look Like a Puppy

You can decorate a simple cupcake to look like a puppy.

A dog's intelligence and loyalty make it an excellent pet for a family. Children and adults alike enjoy treating their pet as part of the family, and including it in any way possible. One way you can represent your pet during your own celebration is to decorate cupcakes to look like your puppy and serve them at your party.

Things You'll Need

• Cupcakes
• White icing
• Round, vanilla cookies
• Decorator's icing
• Small candies
• Rectangular cookies

Instructions

1. Bake a variety of cupcakes. Choose at least two flavors so that guests have a choice at your party. You may use your favorite prepared mix, or your own recipe from scratch for this project.

2. Allow the baked cupcakes to cool thoroughly. Ice the top of the cupcake with a thin layer of the icing. Use just enough icing to cover the top of the cupcake, which may be less than you normally use. Your additional decorations will make up for this.

3. Use a small, vanilla round cookie and place this in the lower center of the cupcake to create the base for a dog's snout.

4. Place a flat round candy in the center of the cookie to make its nose. Use decorator's icing in a coordinating color and draw two backward letter-J shapes from the bottom of candy to create the mouth.

5. Place two small colorful candies just above the circular cookie to make the puppy's eyes.

6. Add ears to the puppy cupcake using your favorite rectangular cookie. Choose one that has rounded edges to make the ears look more realistic. Place one cookie on each side of the cupcake.

7. Try other colors of icing and add any details to the cupcakes to make them look more like your special family pet. You might add spots or any other unique markings of your dog.

• Host a dog party and use a dog-friendly recipe for the cupcake and batter (not chocolate). Serve your puppy-themed cupcakes to the human owners who attend your party.
