How to Make an Antenna With No Fitting
A wireless antenna is designed to transmit and receive signals from devices seeking to access a Wi-Fi signal. You can make an antenna booster to increase the signal strength of a wireless antenna, using supplies that are commonly found around the home. If necessary, you can buy them from a grocery store. You will also need household tools. This procedure will not physically modify the wireless antenna, as it will not be joined with the booster.
Things You'll Need
- Tape measure
- Metal can
- Can opener
- Utility knife
- Pencil
- Portable drill, drill bit
- White glue
- Aluminum foil roll
Instructions
-
-
1
Measure the length of the wireless antenna, and the diameter of the tip. Write down these measurements.
-
2
Measure any cans of food in your pantry. Select the can that is as long as or longer than the antenna.
-
-
3
Empty the contents of the can into a plastic container. Place the container in the refrigerator so the contents do not spoil.
-
4
Measure 3 inches from the bottom of the can. Make a dot at the 3-inch mark with a pencil.
-
5
Drill a hole at the mark, using a portable drill and a drill bit that meets or exceeds the measurement taken from the antenna's tip. If no drill is available, use a utility knife.
-
6
Apply white glue to the inside of the can. Tear off a strip of aluminum foil and wrap it around the inside of the can. Let the glue dry for 10 minutes.
-
7
Insert the pencil through the hole in the can and poke it through the foil. Run the pencil around the inside rim of the hole.
-
8
Poke the tip of the antenna through the hole in the can. Orient the open end in the general direction of the devices, such as a laptop or a mobile tablet, that are to receive the wireless signal.
