How to Measure Frozen Berries
Berries are often stored frozen to keep them fresh for a longer period of time. When following a recipe, it is important to read what form the berries need to be -- thawed or frozen. There's no exact conversion from frozen to thawed measurements, because there's no way to know how much ice the berries are holding. A good rough estimate is that frozen berries take up twice as much space as fresh berries. For example, if you thaw 1 cup of frozen berries, you're going to end up with approximately 1/2 cup thawed berries. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

Read the recipe and determine what measurement of berries is needed, then convert the amount to a frozen measurement by doubling it.
-
2
Pour berries into a measuring cup.
-

Level off the top of the measuring cup. Frozen berries aren't going to fit perfectly into the cup, so get it as close as possible.

Tare the scale so it reads zero. If the scale is manual, this can be done by turning a knob on the back. If the scale is digital, simply press the "tare" or "clear" button.

Tips & Warnings
Avoid unnecessary guessing by simply thawing the frozen berries in warm water, if that's what the recipe needs.
If you don't have a scale or measuring cups, you can estimate 1 cup of frozen berries by comparing it to the size of a baseball.
