How to Use an iPad As a Laptop
If you define a laptop computer in its broadest terms the iPad is most respects already a laptop. It is a highly portable computer that you can work with on your lap. The question then becomes, how to make it a better laptop. Adding a keyboard certainly helps, as does having a stand so that you can prop up the screen, as well as a case to carry everything around in. Several companies, including Kensington, Zagg and Clamcase, produce folding iPad cases that also hold a keyboard, which you can use just as you would a laptop.

1
Get a Bluetooth keyboard for the iPad. In most cases, the iPad should connect to the keyboard automatically as soon as both are turned on. To connect the keyboard yourself, tap "Bluetooth" in the "General" menu of the iPad "Settings."
-
2
Get a case for the iPad you can also use to carry an external keyboard. The cases made by ClamCase, Kensington and Zagg, for example, double as a case and a stand, with a Bluetooth keyboard built into the case.

3
Get a stand for your iPad. If you use your iPad primarily at the office and at home, consider getting a stand for each location, unless the stand is easily portable, or doubles as a case.

4
Connect a wireless printer to the iPad. Consult the manufacturer's website to see if it already has an app to work with your iPad. Most wireless HP printers use AirPrint. LexPrint is a free app to use with Lexmark printers. Kodak printers are accessible with the Kodak Pic Flick app.

Bring your iPad to anyplace with a wireless network to access the Internet. Most laptops contain an Ethernet port to connect directly to a wired network in homes and offices. At the time of publication, Apple does not make an Ethernet adapter for the iPad, so if your office network does not have a wireless network, you will be unable to send or receive emails or surf the Web.
