How to Tie a Bait Loop Knot

How to Tie a Bait Loop Knot thumbnail
A bait loop knot is an effective way to attach row to your hook quickly and effectively.

Bait loop, or egg loop, knots are used to secure a leader to your favorite hook and provide a way to attach fish row as bait, rather then trying to string it on a hook. This knot is a series of simple twists and a good strong knot for trout, salmon and a variety of other game fish.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Thread one end of a short piece of fishing line through the eye of the hook and lay it flat against the back of the shank. Hold the line and hook in place between your finger and thumb.

    • 2

Wrap the loose end around the standing line and hook shank below the eye six to eight times.

    • 3

Make a loop with the free end, about the same size as the hook, and hold it in place with the finger and thumb you are using to hold the other end of the line to the shank.

    • 4

Wrap the back end of the loop around the shank, and the two strands of line against it, six to eight more times.

    • 5

Thread the loose end of the loop back through the eye of the hook and gently pull it tight. This will pull the loop back through the wraps you just made. Adjust the wraps and line as you tighten the knot. To attach bait to the loop, simply push the line back through the eye far enough to get the bait into the loop, then pull the line tight to secure the bait in the loop along the back of the hook shank.
