How to Create Poser-Ready Props

Poser is a powerful 3D figure design and animation application offered by Smith Micro. Poser comes with a number of 3D figures and props that can be used to create either rendered images or entire animated movies. Users can install additional props and models to the libraries. However, any imported props that you want figures to hold, such as a weapon, will have to be manually positioned each time you use them in Poser, unless you save them as Poser Ready props in the library. The process for doing this is quite simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Load a prop you would like to turn into a Poser Ready prop onto your computer. This file should be in one of the formats Poser imports, such as 3D Studio or Wavefront OBJ.

    • 2

Start the Poser application. Go to the Figure library on the left and choose a figure for the prop. Click on the check mark to replace the current figure with the one you selected.

    • 3

Select "File" from the menu and choose "Import." From the options, choose the type of file you are importing. In the dialog, go with the default options and click "OK." Then browse to and open the prop you loaded.

Use the posing and positioning dials in the Parameters panel to place the prop in the hand of the figure. Then select "Object" from the menu and choose "Change Parent." Iin the dialog, select the hand of the figure holding the object and click "OK."

    • 5

Go to the bottom of the Props library and click on the "+" button. In the dialog, click on the "Select Subset" button and choose the cane. Click "OK" and name the prop. Click "OK" again and your prop is Poser ready.
