How to Use a Dough Hook
Baking bread at home may involve mixing and kneading the dough by hand or with a countertop mixer. If you use a stand mixer to knead bread dough, a dough hook can enable more effective kneading. Insert the dough hook into the stand mixer according to manufacturer instructions. Tug on the hook gently to be sure it's inserted properly.

Add the liquid and yeast according to your recipe. Turn the mixer to a low speed and begin mixing the ingredients.

Add the rest of the ingredients to the mixing bowl according to the recipe while the dough hook continues to mix.

Continue to mix the dough and add flour until you achieve the correct dough consistency. When the bread dough begins to pull away from the edges of the bowl, you have enough flour in the dough. Turn the mixer off when this occurs.

Remove the dough hook from the mixer and remove the bowl. Allow the dough to rise according to your recipe.
